Older by-laws still in force
The City of Hamilton lists these by-laws as still regulating the properties not yet brought into Zoning By-law 05-200. Their zone symbols follow each by-law’s own notation, so they are counted here and not given zone pages; each by-law is linked.

How this database works
The City of Hamilton publishes its zoning map as open data: one polygon per zone, with the zone code and any exception, holding or temporary-use marker. HamiltonIQ groups the polygons by by-law and code, measures each from its outline, places it in a neighbourhood and ward by a point inside it, names each code from its by-law’s own zone list, and links the part of the by-law that sets its rules. It does not restate what a zone permits.
A code gets its own page when it is drawn on at least 3 polygons covering at least 1 hectare and the by-law identifies it; the rest are listed in the tables only. In places the layer draws one polygon over another without cutting a hole (388 zone polygons, about 7,403 hectares); both are counted, so the totals can exceed the land they cover. Outlines are simplified to about 6 metres for the maps; a point on a boundary can fall either side.
Left out of the zone counts:
- 9 zone polygons (about 45 hectares) whose by-law field reads “1964”: The layer names “By-law 1964” on these polygons. It is not one of the zoning by-laws the City lists for the former communities, so these polygons are counted and not described.
- 3 zone polygons (about 0 hectares) whose by-law field reads “(blank)”: The layer names no by-law on these polygons.
- 29 zone polygons with no area (a degenerate outline in the layer).
