City services, after-hours emergencies, by-law, potholes, water, HSR, police and school boards.
Almost everything municipal in Hamilton, from roads and potholes to water, waste, by-law and HSR trip planning, starts at the City's line, 905-546-2489 (905-546-CITY), on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the same number takes after-hours emergencies involving roads, water mains and sewers. The police non-emergency line is 905-546-4925; for an emergency, call 911.
Call 905-546-2489; offices are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on statutory holidays. Translation is available in 149 languages, and TTY users can reach the line through the Bell Canada Relay Service by typing 711. Online, use the Ask a Question or Report a Problem forms. The City's emergency after-hours service is the same number, 905-546-2489, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. on weekdays and on weekends, for emergencies involving roads, water mains, sewer systems and public health and safety. For police, fire or ambulance, call 911.
Call 905-546-2489 or use the City's online Report a Problem form, with the location and a description. The same routes cover sinkholes, road cuts, street sweeping, mud on the road, and trees or debris on a road or sidewalk. The City repairs potholes year-round.
Provincial highways are the Ministry of Transportation's: report problems there to the MTO at 1-866-636-0663.
The City of Hamilton runs the drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems. For information, or for a water or wastewater emergency, call 905-546-2489.
Call Municipal Law Enforcement at 905-546-2782 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., choosing option 1 for long grass, garbage and debris, snow removal or graffiti, or option 2 for zoning and property standards. Non-urgent complaints can also be filed online through my.hamilton.ca. Outside business hours, urgent health and safety complaints such as inadequate heat go to 905-546-2489.
Noise: 905-546-2782 option 1 on weekdays; 905-546-2489 outside business hours; and on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., the same number dispatches an officer. Animal complaints go to 905-574-3433. For parking, the same page gives both 905-540-6000 (parking complaints) and 905-546-2489 (parking-related enforcement).
For trip planning, call 905-546-2489, seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. For feedback, suggestions or lost and found, call HSR customer service at 905-528-4200 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or email hsrserve@hamilton.ca. The HSR Customer Service Centre at 36 Hunter St. East (Hamilton GO Station) sells photo IDs, PRESTO cards and senior passes, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Hamilton Police Service non-emergency line is 905-546-4925, for incidents that are not urgent or life-threatening, general inquiries, or police support and resources, such as a suspicious vehicle, mischief or following up on an earlier report. For an emergency, call 911.
The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is at 20 Education Court, Hamilton, phone 905-527-5092. For an education question or concern, start with your child's teacher and principal; if you still need help, its Student and Family Support Office is at 905-521-2521.
The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is at 90 Mulberry Street, Hamilton, phone 905-525-2930. Start with your child's teacher, then the principal; if a concern remains, its Student and Family Support Office is at 905-523-2346, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
