LRT work narrows King Street East from Belmont Avenue to Hughson Street until December 11, with more downtown lane closures in November
The City's scheduled closures list shows an LRT lane occupancy on King Street East from October 26 to December 11, followed by LRT work on Main Street East and King Street West and a month-long George Street closure for utility work.
The details
King Street East
The City of Hamilton's list of scheduled lane restrictions and road closures, last modified October 28, 2026, shows a lane occupancy on King Street East from Belmont Avenue to Hughson Street North, starting Monday, October 26 and ending Friday, December 11. The reason given is LRT work. The list does not say how many lanes are occupied or at what hours.
- Lane occupancy, October 26 to December 11
- Lane occupancy, November 2 to November 11
- Lane occupancy, November 23 to December 18
Main Street East and King Street West
Two more LRT lane occupancies follow. Main Street East between Edgemont Street and Fairfield Avenue is listed from November 2 to Wednesday, November 11. The City's list gives the start as Tuesday, November 2, but November 2, 2026 is a Monday, so check the list before you travel. King Street West from Hughson Street North to New Street is listed from November 23 to December 18.
George Street and other downtown entries
Separately, George Street is listed as closed from Caroline Street to Hess Street from Monday, November 2 at 9 a.m. to Monday, November 30 at 4 p.m., for utility work. The list does not tie that closure to the LRT. Other downtown entries on the same list include these.
- George Street from Queen Street to Ray Street: closed from 8 a.m. November 2 to 6 p.m. November 4, for storm sewer work.
- Hughson Street from Main Street to King Street: closed November 4 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., for filming.
- Jackson Street from Ferguson Avenue to Walnut Street: closed from October 22, 2026 at 10 a.m. to November 30, 2028 at 4 p.m., for construction.
What Metrolinx says about LRT field work
Metrolinx has posted a Hamilton LRT utility inspection notice for the LRT route, running from August 31 to December 31, 2026, Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the City's LRT enabling works page carries the same dates. Metrolinx says the investigations will confirm the location and condition of underground utilities along the corridor, that two-way traffic will be maintained with paid duty officers, flaggers and detour signs as needed, that businesses will stay open, and that some HSR stops will be closed for periods of time. The City's closures list does not say whether the King Street and Main Street lane occupancies are part of that inspection.
