HSR detours on Routes 1, 4, 10 and 41 are posted to run into December, with downtown crane work rerouting more buses
HSR's schedules and detours page lists the Main and Ottawa detour to December 7 and a Route 4 Bayfront detour at Nash Road and King Street to December 21, plus daytime crane-work detours on five downtown routes.
The details
Main and Ottawa: Routes 1, 10 and 41
The City's HSR schedules and detours page lists a detour of Routes 1/1A King, 10 B-Line and 41 Mohawk because of construction at Main Street East and Ottawa Street North, with operating dates of Monday, August 17 to Monday, December 7, 2026. The page notes that the dates depend on construction progress and points to hamilton.ca/MainOttawa for the latest information. Our earlier story on the intersection closure said it was expected to last about four months; the December 7 date comes from HSR's detour listing.
- Route 1/1A King: westbound buses turn onto Edgemont Street North, Dunsmure Road and King Street East; eastbound buses use Ottawa Street South, Maple Avenue and Edgemont Street South.
- Route 10 B-Line: runs via Kenilworth Avenue North, Cannon Street East and Gage Avenue North, with temporary stops at Main at Crosthwaite, Cannon at Ottawa and Gage at King.
- Route 41 Mohawk: runs via Gage Avenue North and Cannon Street East, with several Ottawa Street stops near the intersection out of service.
Route 4 Bayfront at Nash Road
A separate detour of Route 4 Bayfront for construction operates from 6 am to 5 pm from August 31 to December 21, 2026. Northbound from King Street and Nash Road, buses continue east on King Street, then use Owen Place, Greenford Drive, Dover Drive and Nash Road. Southbound from Nash Road and Rainbow Drive, buses use Rainbow Drive, Orphir Road, Potruff Road, King Street and Quigley Road. Northbound, the stops at 105 Nash Road, Nash opposite Denten Street, Nash opposite Rainbow Drive and Nash at King Street are out of service and riders can use King Street at Nash Road; southbound, Nash at King Street and 2673 King Street are out of service. The City's closures list separately shows lane restrictions at Nash Road, King Street and Queenston Road for water works to the end of December.
Downtown crane work
The page also lists crane-work detours between 9 am and 4 pm on Routes 4 Bayfront, 7 Locke, 8 York and 9 Rock Gardens, effective October 6, and a later notice, effective October 14, that adds Route 99 Waterfront. Eastbound Routes 4 and 7 leave Bay Street at Main Street, and westbound Routes 8 and 9 turn from Bay Street at King Street onto King Street, Hess Street and Cannon Street. Stops out of service include Bay opposite George, Bay at King, Bay at Vine, York opposite Park, York opposite MacNab and Cannon at Hess. Route 4 has a temporary stop at James Street and Rebecca Street. Neither notice gives an end date.
