Two roundabouts and a realigned road recommended for Binbrook Road, Trinity Church Road and White Church Road in Glanbrook
Hamilton's Public Works Committee voted 8–0 to file the environmental study for the Binbrook Road, Trinity Church Road and White Church Road intersection, which recommends two roundabouts, a realignment and a multi-use path. A 30-day public review comes next.
The details
What was decided
On October 2, 2026, Hamilton's Public Works Committee voted 8–0 to approve staff Report PW26063. It authorizes the General Manager of Public Works to file the Environmental Study Report for the Binbrook Road/Trinity Church Road/White Church Road Intersection Improvements Municipal Class Environmental Assessment with the City Clerk for a public review of at least 30 days, and then, once the review, the provincial review period and any section 16 order requests are resolved, to proceed with the preferred design.
The preferred design
The intersection is in a rural area west of the community of Binbrook in Ward 11. Binbrook Road and White Church Road are arterial roads and Trinity Church Road is a collector, all posted at 60 km/h, and Binbrook Road and White Church Road are identified as a future truck route in the City's Truck Route Master Plan. The report says the current alignment does not accommodate larger vehicles, speeding is a consistent problem, and there is no cycling infrastructure or consistent pedestrian infrastructure.
Of five alternative designs evaluated, staff chose "Alternative 1: Two roundabouts with realigned road", which also adds a multi-use path on the north side of Binbrook Road. The report says this option has no impact on heritage properties, a minor impact on vegetation, no property acquisition costs and low maintenance costs, and gives the best operational safety and speed management while improving the skewed angle of the existing intersection.
- Two roundabouts, realigned road, multi-use path on Binbrook Road's north side
- About $5.7 million (Class D estimate, subject to change)
- Could begin in 2030 and be completed in 2031
- About $13,250, for a total of about $94,750 a year
- Schedule C Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
What happens next
The report says that after Council approval the Environmental Study Report will be available for a minimum 30-day public review, when the public can submit final comments and any interested party can request a section 16 order from the Province. Project information is on the City's project page and on Engage Hamilton. Staff say the 2027 capital forecast for the project, $6,366,000, will be adjusted to the study's estimate.
