Ballot on Demand polls (any ward)

A ballot on demand allows for citizens to vote at a site that is convenient to them, regardless of where they live in Hamilton.

Election Day

Monday 26 October 2026

Most polls are open from 10 am to 8 pm. For the 2026 Municipal Election, eligible voters will be permitted to vote at any polling station in their ward.

Voting proxy

Under Section 44 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 voters who are unable to vote for any reason on any of the available voting days, can appoint another eligible elector (A Voting Proxy) to vote on your behalf. To appoint a Voting Proxy, an Appointment for Voting Proxy - Form 3 must be completed and certified by the City Clerk or Designate.

Mail-in voting will not be available during the 2026 Municipal Election.


Who can vote

  • Reside in the local municipality or are the owner or tenant of land here, or the spouse of an owner or tenant AND
  • Are a Canadian citizen AND
  • Are at least 18 years old AND
  • Are not prohibited from voting by law.

What to bring, and the voters’ list

Heading to the polls? Bring one piece of ID with your name and home address. No voter card needed.
