The details

The meeting

Hamilton's Committee of Adjustment will hold meeting 26-15 on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Hamilton City Hall, 71 Main Street West, according to the agenda the City has published. The committee is made up of Hamilton residents chosen by Council, and it rules on consents, such as land severances, and on minor variances to the Zoning By-law.

The agenda, as revised and read again on October 25, lists 25 application files on 20 properties. Two files, for 33 Sanford Avenue South and 653 Barton Street East, both in Ward 3, are listed as previously tabled. Ten files are grouped under East Development and 13 under West Development. Five properties have two files each: 163 Beach Boulevard, 251 Springside Drive, 313-315 Wentworth Street North, 125 Mohawk Road East and 19-21 Mulberry Street.

How to take part

  • In writing: email cofa@hamilton.ca or mail the Committee of Adjustment, City of Hamilton, 71 Main Street West, 5th Floor, Hamilton, ON L8P 4Y5, by 12 noon on the date listed on the Notice of Public Hearing. Include the file number and your full name and address; anonymous comments are not accepted.
  • In person: attend Council Chambers at the time on the notice. The City recommends arriving at least 10 minutes early, and speakers give their name and address for the record.
  • By Webex video or phone: register by 12 noon on the date listed on the notice by emailing cofa@hamilton.ca with the file number, hearing date, each speaker's full name and mailing address, and how you will join. Each person registers separately, and registered speakers receive a link one business day before the hearing.
  • Every speaker, in person or online, has up to five minutes.

The City says written comments are shared with the committee and the public by the Tuesday before the hearing. The City's page also notes that, citing Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022, neighbours and other interested parties are no longer eligible to appeal the committee's consent or minor variance decisions; appeals may be filed by the applicant, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, a specified person or a public body as defined in the Planning Act.

Corrections

  • The City's posted agenda has changed since this story was first published on October 10. The version read on October 10 listed 24 files on 19 properties across 12 wards. The agenda as read on October 25 lists 25 files on 20 properties across 11 wards: 461 Kitty Murray Lane in Ancaster (Ward 12) is no longer listed, and 653 Barton Street East (previously tabled) and 135 Trenholme Crescent have been added. This story has been updated to match.
  • An earlier version said residents who want to be heard have to meet the noon deadline on each hearing notice. The City's Committee of Adjustment process page sets that deadline for written comments and for registering to speak by Webex; residents can also speak by attending the hearing in person.
